Hey there! We’re Katie and Daren and over the last few years we have become pretty domesticated. As in we happen to love pretty things, especially pretty furnishing, but on a day-to-day basis we don’t always have it completely together.

Here’s our story: After meeting in college, moving back to our hometown, dating for a few years, and marrying in 2012, we upgraded from Daren’s  bachelor pad condo to our first home in 2014. A month after we moved into the home we spent months designing, we welcomed our baby girl E into the world. In other words, we took years to settle down but when we were ready we threw ourselves into the domesticated life and haven’t looked back.

After the arrival of E, I (Katie) was so distracted (or deliriously tired), I was almost able to overlook the fact our furniture clashed with our home. The home for which we had painstakingly picked finishes for, even going as far as sampling two dozen paint colors to find the perfect scheme. (Obsessive — yes.) You can see some pictures of how it looked right after we moved in and how it looks today here.

After some time, I couldn’t take it any longer and we got to work. We started filling our evenings tinkering with our house, searching for decor and even spending precious “date nights,” when E was at the grandparents, on DIY projects. The alarming part was that we loved it. Home tweaking — we just can’t quit you.

After realizing I was hooked on all things domestic, Pretty Domesticated, the blog, was started to chronicle our adventures (and misadventures) in home decorating and life, and to fuel my creative needs. I’m the writer, dreamer and designer, while Daren is the realist and the maker.

Sometimes we manage to fill our time not installing moulding or painting walls. I’m a (retired?) marketer/writer turned stay-at-home mom. When not chasing after our child, blogging, or putting plastic containers back into the cupboards, I occasionally freelance as a graphic designer and writer. Daren is the bread-winner and operates a drill even at work. He is a dentist and loves to tell everyone “teeth aren’t tools.” View the tabs on the right to get a quick run down on us both.

With that we welcome you to our virtual home. Read along for our lifestyle musings, renovation tips, DIY tutorialsinterior design inspiration, as well as, glimpses into our daily life with the real star of the show blog, our daughter, E.
