Freestyle Friday

*This post contains affiliate links. I’m back and better than ever temporarily disabled!  In seriousness, I apologize from the lack of attention the blog has been getting. Writing took a backseat to some other opportunities (Check us out in the April Issue of Design & Living) and to some DIY projects around the house, namely our basement stairs. Then a week ago, I broke my foot stepping off the side of those just about completed stairs, minutes after meeting with a contractor to finalize the railing measurements.  In my defense it’s less than 2 ft high. I thought my bones could handle it. I was wrong. (Get the whole story here.) It was a very “Katie” thing to do, and I… Read More

Project Big Girl Room – The Before Pictures

After much deliberation, we have decided to move E from the nursery to a bigger bedroom down the hall. Recently I shared stunning inspirations pictures of light an airy little girl’s bedrooms. Today I’m going to show you the not so pretty, pretty Pinterest images of the room we are working with. Here is the room we are working with, without any frills and the wrong carpet. When you have a good thing going, why stop? The guest bedroom is quickly nearing completion. We are just waiting on a steel ladder and railing guard. Since the room is small and the beds are built in there isn’t the need for a ton of decor, but I wanted the few items we do use to be playful and fun. I put together two design… Read More

The End is Near – Basement Update

I apologize this post is long overdue and already out of date considering I took these pictures before we left for a holiday vacation to Hawaii. However, in case you missed my Facebook Live video from before we left town, I wanted to share some progress pictures of the basement, and to explain some of our decisions. Plus, I’m sharing what you can expect in the final reveal. We will start in the dark entertainment room.  The coffered ceiling was installed a few weeks ago using pre-primed boards, meaning it’s beautiful crisp white details popped against the dark paint. You can see a picture of it here. I was absolutely terrified to paint the ceiling dark, even though that is what… Read More
